a few things

I forgot to mention a few things…

First… I apparently entered my swim time wrong when I registered for the triathlon. Sarah says I am going to be starting with the pro’s, which, is probably going to end up being a very bad thing. I thought I was supposed to time my 100m swim and then enter that time, not time my 300m swim and take my average 100m swim from THAT time. Oops. Ugh… so… I do have slight anxiety over that right now. I did email the guy from setupevents.com, but he hasn’t responded and I have a feeling since the website has “NO swim time changes will be accepted after Friday, March 14th” plastered all over it, that there’s probably nothing he can do for me… but that’s got my nerves in a bunch. I just have this feeling I am going to be “pulling over” every 30 seconds so someone else can pass me (it’s a pool swim), which will do great, great things for my swim time. Honestly… my swim time was the only thing I had going for me. (sigh)

Anyone have any other suggestions for me?

Second… Sarah DID have good news for me though. She made me two CDs to help pump me up for my first tri! One for the road trip down and one for the morning of the race. How cool is that! I am just beginning to learn how great “the people” of fitness/triathlons/racing really can be… I’m looking forward to getting more involved and addicted and just into the “scene” of everything!!

My mom is coming!! She’s going to take pictures and cheer my sister and I on… woohoo! Can you tell I’m getting pumped?

Oh — here’s a fun video… most of you have probably seen it before, but just in case you haven’t: A Clif Bar start.

I saw it on this website I found today, which might become a new favorite!

  1. Oh my good… I’m sorry, but I am laughing so hard I am crying.

Don’t worry about it… just don’t line up with that group… wait till the slow people line up.

Usually these kind of wave starts are set up so that people can have accurate times. So for example, they will start the faster swimmers 5 minutes before everyone else. Since you don’t care what the official time is, (you can always do the math yourself and subtract the 5 minutes), you should just get in the water with the people who you think will swim as fast as you can/want to.

The warning about adjusted start is just because they don’t want to have to figure out what group to put your race number in to fix up the records. They will have no problem with you starting in a later group.

    You’re going to do AWESOME!!!

  2. You can drop back corrals no problemo! Just drop back and no one will even know. It’ll be great. Just start with your sister and go for the goal. Sarah sounds super nice making the CD - I hope theres some Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch on there. HAHAHAH

  3. And I thought it was just me.

If it’s in a pool and they’re really 2-3 times as fast as you . . . it could work to your advantage. :-o

Basically you’re going to be overtaken every 3 lengths or so, which means that you get to take a couple of recovery breaths at the end of the pool, and then push off hard & get a bit of a tow for the next half length. Drafting in the water’s definitely legal!

That aside, this is still the funniest thing I’ve read all day. G’luk for the weekend!

  4. Congrats on making the commitment to doing your first tri! I’m sure you’ll have tons of fun!

I’m not sure, but if you don’t line up in a pool start triathlon in the correct position, they will put you all the way in the back. They can’t let you squeeze in just anywhere. It’s not like a mass corral start of a marathon, where your chip starts timing as soon as you cross a mat. In the pool start, each champion chip is set to start timing at the exact start time they have you lined up for. So, squeezing in someplace else is not possible, without reprogramming everyone’s start time.

I would recommend getting there plenty early and talking to them on race morning to see what they can do to help you. At one of my races, Setup Inc messed up my registration packet, and they were able to squeeze me in someplace reasonable for the pool start. Come to think of it, I think they intentionally leave some gaps in the time slots for that reason. So, it’ll all work out!

    Good luck!

  5. BTW — I talked to him briefly before I got in the pool. He didn’t remember you, but he was glad you guys got everything straightened out.
