We’re getting there….

I just bought a tri suit for the triathlon. I don’t even have a great pair of running shoes. Actually my plan for the day is to push hard on the swim & the bike and then if I really have to, I will allow myself to walk part of the run (ummm, I’m being realistic here — and I am going to have to do that). So I feel like a good triathlon suit is probably a priority over a brand new pair of running shoes. I can wear the same shoes I have worn all along, right?

Three weeks away!!

Christy can’t come so she is allowing me to use her bike! And I am committing a terrible tri athlete sin here… but all I know about this amazing bike is that it cost her over $1k and she has only ridden it three times. She got it for Christmas. I have to practice with the clips a few times before I can take it… but isn’t that awesome of her to TRUST me with it?! And that way my sister can ride my bike instead of her mountain bike.

Everything is working out well for us super beginner triathlon-ers! Ha ha. I feel good… I think it will be really fun and casual… I just feel so much better about it now that I have someone to cross the finish line with.

Oh — and I am dropping lbs like crazy. I have committed to eating raw foods for dinner M-F. I incorporate pasta on the weekends to help fuel my runs and long bike rides. But… so far that diet has REALLY helped shed some extra weight, which is a good thing because my wedding dress was a little bit snug (oops).

Anyway! So things are good… coming along very well!

  1. Just a bit of advice, don’t buy new running shoes for a race! The last thing you want is to try and break a new pair in while trying to finish your run!

  2. Congrats on the trisuit. I bought mine last night.

    Another piece of advice:

Generally you want to relax a little on the swim. Don’t go super hard out of the gate. Go for what’s called negative splits. Faster on the last half than on the first half. Same way for the bike. This race will be a lot longer and use more muscle groups than 5Ks. A lot of people do walk portions of the run so don’t worry about that.

And make sure you do a few longer rides on Christy’s bike. She likely has a road bike, which will put you in different positioning than your bike.
