dietary changes
I understand a post full of complaints sure makes it tough for a reader to respond. Not that I expect any of you to ever respond — I don’t! All comments are a lovely treat, and often surprises.
But anyway, I decided I should give myself an attitude check and try this again.
I have been making some minor dietary changes recently. I am not sure how it will affect my physical activity, but I suppose there is hope for some difference. This blog has been a great resource for me lately. She is a friend of my sister’s and has inspired me to change my lifestyle in other ways besides just my diet. Lately she has been writing a low about raw eating, but I have found a lot of inspiration in her recipe ideas and overall attitude towards the food she puts in her body.
The biggest change I have made (other than just thinking differently about food) is giving up most meats about 2 weeks ago. A friend and I agreed to do it together. We gave up all meats except poultry and seafood. So far, I am not sure that I have noticed too much of a difference except that I know I am making healthier food choices because of it. I am getting a little tired of chicken all the time so I have been craving a wider variety of veggies. That’s totally unusual for me… so it’s a great thing! Also, I have passed on a breakfast biscuit twice now, and I heaar that’s a GREAT thing for my body.
And… one other thing I have changed… which, really isn’t a big thing at all… but it’s something. Have I told you all about my terrible love affair with sugar? It’s really bad. I don’t know if I want to go into details, but let me put it this way for you. I can eat sugar cubes right out of the box. I don’t, but I could. And I could enjoy it. SO. I switched to raw organic sugar. I know, I know… it’s really not that much of a difference. But, it’s another minor change that might help me make another bigger change in the future. We’ll see.
I’m registered for a 5k this weekend. I haven’t run in a long time. I don’t plan on running the entire way… but I do, of course, plan on finishing. I just need to get back into the habit of running.

great link to Happy Foodie - thanks for sharing that with us!
I love juicing and smoothies but am very lazy. A great trick I found was making up a huge batch at once and putting whatever I don’t need in the freezer ready for whenever I want one.
Good luck with the sugar thing - thats way tougher than giving up meat (I am a chocolate / cake / sweet addict), and good luck with your run this weekend.
Good luck with the dietary changes. I know from experience how difficult it is to make those changes permanent. I’m constantly struggling.
I recently found that I’m allergic to Cane Sugar! So now I’m going through all my food again and removing or substituting foods. I did find one chocolate bar that uses Beet Sugar — whew! I’m not addicted to sugar, but I don’t think I could completely say g’bye to my dark chocolate.
Good luck on the dietary changes. Sounds like they’re going well. I, too, love sugar. I moved to raw sugar a long time ago. Then, this summer, I tried switching most of that out for honey. And, in ‘08, I’ve started using Agave nectar more and more. Its even lower on the glycemic scale. I use these things in tea, oatmeal, and even in some baking. I will admit that some things really require true sugar, but I’ve all but eliminated things like corn syrup.
Good luck!
Best of luck, I love those sugar cubes! I used to shovel tons of them in tea growing up, my aunt’s house was the only one who had those cubes. Ahhh… so tasty! Lately, I’ve been hooked on unhealthy foods, but reading blogs like yours and the one you suggested, it gives me support to do the best for me!
You rock!
