I’m here, I’m training. If you can call it that.

Well, I’m training. Less than seven weeks to go until TRI day.

I bought a heart rate monitor by the suggestion of my brother in law (he is a professional personal trainer). He is “coaching” me. I didn’t really mean for him to coach me. I simply asked for advice and so far, every day since then he has said “do this tomorrow and call me with the results.” One of those “things” was to buy a heart rate monitor. I suppose it was so that he could understand more about my workouts. Anyway, it has made me become increasingly disappointed in myself. My heart rate is through the roof every time I start to jog. Every single time. And I never knew it. The bike riding? So far, no big deal. But the jogging? I maxed out at 204 of the other day. (sigh)

Anyway. I don’t want to talk about it.

I also gave up red meats. Well, really all meat except poultry and fish. It has been about two weeks now and twice I have eaten pepperoni without thinking about it. One time I ate it out of politeness as a guest in someone’s home (in a pasta salad) and the other time I ate a slice of pepperoni pizza and didn’t think about the meat part of it until two days later. Oops! But I have realized that I am getting tired of all the chicken and it’s making me crave more veggies for more variety. So that’s good! I also have passed on TWO breakfast biscuits (sausage/egg/cheese). So I supposed that’s a positive, too.

The triathlon is going to be a lot harder than I thought. But I will finish it. Even if I hate myself and I hate life the whole way through it.

The wedding is less than 9 weeks away.

  1. Check you out! Heart rate monitor… daily calls with your coach! You’re an athlete now sister!

    You Go!

  2. I think you’re getting really stressed out! I can tell here and from your other blog. Maybe take a moment for yourself, not to train or anything, but to relax, rest and recoup. I was the same in the weeks leading up to my wedding, it really takes a toll.

  3. I’d take you out for a drink, er, smoothie if I was near by! Just remember how much you’ve done lately. I’m sure impressed!

  4. Craving more veggies is great, but don’t forget that you need iron to replace what you aren’t getting in the red meats! (Just a little advice from someone who has been borderline anemic her entire life.)
Best of luck in your next 5K!
