Like I said, Megan never cancels.
We were running at an AWESOME pace. I was so pumped. She runs about a 10/min mile, if not under. We took off to run the long loop and the first mile was tough. We were talking and I was breathing terribly between my gasp for words. But then we got to talking about some interesting things and I forgot all about the run!
At first it felt so good — it was almost easy! I mean it was hard, but it wasn’t painful. However, that didn’t last too long. We ran about 2 miles when my insides started aching. I pushed anyway and kept running until I just had to stop. It felt like period cramps, or basically like I wanted to just sit down and let all of my insides fall out. I even got slightly nauseous. I wanted to run… I kept thinking “okay, start again NOW” but, it just wasn’t happening. Megan was fine with it, though… her take is that she just needs to be active, and walking for 5 minutes is still being active.
We really only walked about a 1/4 mile, but it felt like a while. The pain eventually went away. I wish I hadn’t had to walk because I would have loved to see what our time would have been otherwise. Actually, part of me wonders if the pain came because I was pushing myself so hard.
Does that sound like a normal thing to any of you?
Anyway… I am running w/ her again on Sunday, and then Tuesday! Yippee! ![]()

Sounds like a side-stitch. It’s very common with runners. I’ve gotten them before. Here is a site to explain a little more….

Kate, I get side-stitches every time I run. I think I have only ran one time and not gotten one. So it wasn’t that…
It would be good to learn what it was so I could try to prevent it in the future. Oh well.
Thanks for your help, though!
Great job Liz - it’s hard to push yourself, but it’s also a testament to your will that you do it anyway. I’m glad you can always count on Megan - we need people like that!
I’m thinking maybe it’s your arm motion while running since you were trying to run faster than normal maybe your arms swinging got a little out of whack (I do that) and maybe they were crossing your body and causing an awful muscle cramp - very painful! Anyway, I’m not sure but here’s a link anyway!
