Pardon my negativity, but… it sucked. It hurt. I walked so much. It was an all-hill course…. up down, up down… Tommy’s sister suggested (before the race) if I needed I should “walk the hills.” By the end of the race (or even by mile 2) I was running ONLY downhill. Which was quite a bit. But still.

I took off too fast… I tried not to… but I just went with the crowd. Plus the whole first mile was basically downhill, and one uphill at the very end of it.

Anyway I hated it until the very end where I got a burst of energy to run down the hill across the finish line. That’s where this picture was taken.

I can’t believe I have to learn to run… that I’m pushing myself to do this. It was absolutely miserable and during the race I even considered quitting everything… the triathlon, everything.

Running sucks!

And…. I’m totally in a horrible mood because after the run, I have been rushing around all day and I am exhausted… my body has felt over-heated all day… I’ve been drinking a ton of water… but I’ve got a headache and am still on-the-go. But I wanted to post my results b/c I’m headed to the beach and don’t know if I’ll have internet while I’m there.

Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. But you look Soooooo Haaaaaaappy in that picture! Seriously! You do!

    Good Job!

  2. You look like you’re having a blast. Tell me that isn’t because you’re nearing the end. And hey, you did make it to the end so that’s positive. Good going!

  3. I agree, you look good in the picture. Nice ring ;-) Have a good weekend.

  4. Yeah, you DO look like it’s the best day of your life - just look at that smile. And don’t try to tell us that it’s just a trick of the light / you’ve been caught halfway between a grimace and tears (and it just happens to look like a smile) / you were only happy ‘cos it was almost over. The camera never lies, and that’s a smile.

And to echo riddenwords . . . you seem to have something huge and glinty stuck to your finger ;-)

  5. You look fantastic and you did absolutely fabulous! Congrats on your first race.

And I’ll confess, I had several moments during that race when I felt like just sitting down and quitting. That’s a really hard course.

  6. I’ve had the same feeling in the past, running sucks, but no worries, I’ve ran a lot of races…. and still sucks!! ;-)

    Seriously, that’s why I practice triathlon, I’m a rubbish swimmer, I’m a rubbish cyclist and I’m a rubbish runner = Triathlete.

Running it’s always a pain, but it feels good before, during and after the run. Does that make any sense?

  7. You look great! The 1st 5K is always really hard! I’m glad that I was able to read your beach run post before this. Keep your head up and maybe next time you should just jog really slow up the hills. I find it harder to stop and start again.

Running feels much better afterwards and once yuo get more used to it it will get easier. I wouldn’t have liked having to do Thanksgiving after my first 5K either. You want to just lounge around and rest - not keep up a smile and entertain all sorts of family/soon to be family.

You did great. Just showing up is a major success. Keep pushing yourself.

    I’m proud

  8. Congrats! I say try another 5k without all the hills! I am sure you feel better a little after. Everything takes practice and you’ll be up to your triathaloning in no time! Just keep this post… to remember where you came from! :)

  9. I have to agree with everyone else, you look like you’re having a great time! :-)

Just think of how it will be amazing to run this again next year and KILL your time!

You did great, and you should be very proud. Trust me, I did not look that happy when I crossed the finish line for my 5k a few weeks ago…
