I’m really excited!
Okay… I know a 5k is no big deal to most (all) of you… but I am really, really excited about my race tomorrow!
I’ll be honest — I do not expect to run the entire way. I plan on “walking the hills” if I have to. I pretty freakin sure I will NOT be coming in under 30 min (THAT would b a miracle, but… I do actually believe in miracles so I won’t say it’s impossible).
But I am really excited! It’s my first race! Ever! I am sort-of in SHAPE. I can run for over a mile! I can ENJOY it! I am so high on life right now!
The other day I ran into Kroger to get some groceries. I checked out and was getting ready to pay and realized I left my wallet in the car (I do that more often than one would think). So I RAN to my car, and I RAN back… and miraculously: I was not out of breath. I noticed and it was an awesome sense of accomplishment.
So that’s what I am excited about tomorrow. I know a 5k is no big deal, but I am excited to finally accomplish a race. And then my races will get bigger and more challenging and I can start bragging about them to people and actually impress them. ha ha.
I just had to write about how pumped I am. I’m downing the water today… I really, really do not want cramps tomorrow AM.
Does anyone know what would be the best pre-race breakfast for a 5k? I was thinking a protein shake at least 2 hrs before the race. I am currently googling it… while I try to finish up some work in the process.

Skip the protein shake, it might be too hard to digest. I would eat something with carbs that isn’t too heavy. Maybe a bowl of cereal or a toasted bagel. You burn mostly carbohydrate and a little fat in a 5K. Stop eating about 2 hours before your event.
Good Luck!
Good luck!
Sometimes I won’t eat anything at all before an early 5K- but I guess if you’re getting up more than 2 hours before the event, you probably do want something.
I agree with Lisa- bagels work well.
Congrats on your 5k! It is important, and you’ll do well!
As a first timer, I wouldn’t stress so much about pre-race foods, although others may differ in suggestions. Its your first race and I would eat foods you already eat in the morning on a normal day, since your digestive system would be used to it.
To be honest, I usually eat like a 1/2 hour to an hour before a race and it’s a protein shake. It normally is fine for me, but I drink one every day for breakfast.
I don’t follow the food rules others do and change it up per race to test things out, but you learn what works best for you and your tummy, because over time.. I’ve learned to avoid chinese food before a run! LOL
Good luck! I’m excited for you and can’t wait to hear how it goes. Sorry no good ideas on pre-event foods, but just think of all those fabulous Thanksgiving options that will be open to you when you finish. Rock on girl!
I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow! I hope you have a GREAT time! My only recommendation is to avoid alfredo sauce!
