down week

Workout:

  • Type: Run
  • Date: 09/06/2007
  • Time: 06:30:00
  • Total Time: 00:13:30.00
  • Distance: 1 miles
  • Average Pace: 13:30.81/mile

This run was absolutely miserable. I barely finished. I went inside to do some strength training exercises just to make myself feel better about not running very long. As a result, in the shower afterwards, my arms were shaking everytime I lifted them.

After working out, I went to the library (remember I work on a college campus) and didn’t see any books that looked any different from the one I got yesterday (Understanding Nutrition). But I came back to work and found a comment from Lisa recommending some books. (Lisa - thank you so much!) I will return to the library and if they don’t have them, I’ll try the inter-library loan. :)

There’s hope… I just… don’t really see it. I can’t get past 1.5 mi’s running… it’s pure misery and I hate it when I’m doing it. (Well, I did today anyway.) I am thinking about incorporating some weight lifting (which was also suggested by Lisa forever ago). When I think about that — if I can get my leg muscles to be stronger, then running won’t be too miserable, right?

Tonight… pilates. Tomorrow… the freakin bike. I’m taking a break from running!!

  1. Good luck with your training. Maybe making a few adjustments in your diet will give you more energy. :)

  2. By the way… take this for what it’s worth… (probably not much).

I also don’t like to run 1.5 miles. Huh?

    Yep… that’s right.

There is something about the first mile or so of a run… it is rarely enjoyable to me… but there is something that happens after about 1.5 miles or so that makes the run start to be more fun. I can’t explain it, other than probably the classic “runners high” concept that endorphines and adrenaline make you want to keep running. And those don’t kick in right away. For me… I hit this mini wall about 10 minutes into my run, where it’s hard up until then, and then it gets easier.

Anyway, good luck. I’m sure you’ll break through it and have a great run real soon!

  3. Okay, this is creepy. I had the same run as you today.

I was complaining to a friend about my run this morning and she suggested to throw in some variety. I know that I *can* run 3 miles without stopping, but my body is just rebelling against it. Instead, she suggested that I try running for 2 minutes, walking for a minute, running for 2 minutes, walking for a minute, etc… I don’t know if it will help, but it will change the focus to be time-based, rather than distance-based which may help.

I still think it’s the change in the season. :-)

Good luck and I hope that things get better!
